\n\tA trip to Georgia O\u2019Keeffe\u2019s New Mexico ranch \u2014 and an eyeful of her bold, sensual paintings \u2014 fueled Jenny Packham\u2019s imagination and got her thinking about color, drape and the artist\u2019s life in the desert.<\/p>\n
\n\tIt\u2019s no wonder this season\u2019s palette was full of saturated color, the rich blue of the night sky, the hot gold hues of the sun and the changing colors of sand, and the earth, as the hours pass as the temperature swings from hot to cold.<\/p>\n
\n\t\u201cI was looking at O\u2019Keeffe\u2019s colors, her style and the desert sun in winter,\u201d said Packham, who spent a lot of time gazing at the artist\u2019s \u201cfeisty, feminist\u201d paintings.<\/p>\n
\n\tThat boldness came through in Packham\u2019s own designs, with strong shoulders on sparkling gowns awash in gold or marine blue sequins; dramatic draping on a backless dress, and deep-V necklines on other red carpet-ready styles. Even a simple, ice white slipdress had a quiet power.<\/p>\n
\n\tPackham used O\u2019Keeffe\u2019s native landscape and her curving, curling organic images as inspiration, too, adding a silvery sunburst design to the neck of a turmeric-toned caftan; sprinkling tiny gold leaves across a strappy minidress, and adding beaded and sequin vines, or shimmery waterfall designs, to the bodice, shoulders or sleeves of dark gowns.<\/p>\n
\n\tPackham, a celebrity favorite who also creates exclusive capsules for retailers including Net-a-porter and Mytheresa, said O\u2019Keeffe wasn\u2019t the only inspiration behind these sensual designs. <\/p>\n
