The 56-year-old director \u2014 the creator behind the romantic dramas like Grey\u2019s Anatomy<\/em> and Bridgerton<\/em> \u2014 spoke about being single and what she looks for in a romantic partner during Tuesday\u2019s episode of Craig Melvin\u2019s podcast, Glass Half Full<\/em>.<\/p>\n\u201cIf Shonda Rhimes could write the perfect guy for Shonda Rhimes, what would he be like?\u201d Melvin said. \u201cWhat would he look like?\u201d <\/p>\n
Rhimes said that she hasn\u2019t thought about what her future partner would look like, but she has considered the kind of personality she\u2019d want him to have. <\/p>\n
\u201cI think for me the most attractive thing about somebody is them being intelligent, like really smart, and having an opinion about the world. To me, that\u2019s interesting,\u201d she explained. \u201cI don\u2019t care if you\u2019re an activist or in philanthropy, but you have to be somebody who\u2019s involved in the world.\u201d <\/p>\n

Rhimes revealed that her eldest daughter, Harper, 23, has tried to step in and introduce her to new men. <\/p>\n
\u201cI would go on dates, and she would run to the door just as we were leaving and say, \u2018Make the magic happen!\u201d Rhimes recalled.<\/p>\n
Her other two daughters \u2014 Emerson, 12, and Beckett, 11 \u2014 aren\u2019t as keen for their mom to go on dates.<\/p>\n
\u201cThey’re always very upset when I put on makeup and go anywhere. They’re like, \u2018What have you done to your face?\u2019\u201d she said. \u201cThey’re those kids who like me as me and at home, and they can’t imagine me as a separate person, and I get that. I’m their mom.\u201d <\/p>\n
Rhimes adopted her first child, Harper, in 2002, before adopting Emerson 10 years later. She welcomed Beckett via surrogate in 2013. <\/p>\n
The screenwriter previously said in a 2015 interview that she isn\u2019t interested in getting married, but she\u2019s had a change of heart over the years. <\/p>\n
During an appearance on Alex Cooper\u2019s Call Her Daddy<\/em> podcast in October, Rhimes confessed that her firm stance against marriage may not be \u201ctrue anymore.\u201d <\/p>\n\u201cI\u2019ve never been a person who thought about getting married. I was a person who, like I always knew I was gonna be a mom. I\u2019ve always known that,\u201d she said. \u201cMarriage never really entered into it and my parents have this amazing romantic, beautiful marriage and they\u2019ve been married forever, and so I have this great example of what a great marriage is, but I was always like, \u2018Eh, eh.\u2019\u201d <\/p>\n
Rhimes said that she used to feel like marriage was \u201creally threatening\u201d to her identity, where people were going to see that as her value, rather than her successful career. <\/p>\n
Now that she\u2019s \u201cvery comfortable\u201d with what she\u2019s accomplished, she doesn\u2019t have that fear anymore.<\/p>\n
