The Irish actor, 33 \u2013 who is set to play Ringo Starr in Sam Mendes\u2019s four-film Beatles biopic \u2014 told SiriusXM host Ben Harlum that persistent negative comments have led him to withdraw \u201cinside myself\u201d and even question his future in acting.<\/p>\n
\u201cThere\u2019s a lot of abuse of how I look, and it\u2019s kind of past the point of \u2018everyone goes through that\u2019 and everyone does, but it\u2019s made me shy away,\u201d he admitted. \u201cIt\u2019s made me go inside myself and not want to attend places. Not want to go outside.<\/p>\n
\u201cI think I remove myself from online, but I\u2019m still a curious human being that wants to go on,\u201d he explained. \u201cIf I attend an event or if I go somewhere, you want to see how it was received. It\u2019s not nice, you know, there\u2019s a lot of hate online.\u201d<\/p>\n

Keoghan stars as Tommy Shelby\u2019s son \u2018Duke\u2019 in the new Peaky Blinders film on Netflix (Netflix)<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/div>\nHe continued: \u201cI don\u2019t have to hide away because I am hiding away. I don\u2019t have to go to places because I actually don\u2019t go to places because of these things.<\/p>\n
\u201cBut when that starts leaking into your art, it becomes a problem because then you don\u2019t even want to be on screen anymore.\u201d<\/p>\n
The Saltburn<\/em> star added that the way online bullying has affected him is \u201cbecoming a problem\u201d. <\/p>\nKeoghan also expressed concern about how the negative comments directed at him online could one day affect his three-year-old son, Brando, whom he shares with his ex, Alyson Sandro.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt\u2019s disappointing to the fans, but it\u2019s also disappointing that my little boy has to read all of this stuff when he gets older,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n
The Banshees of Inisherin<\/em> star has previously hit back at the hate he\u2019s received online. In December 2024, he urged people in a post on X to \u201cbe respectful\u201d, following the criticism he received about his split from singer Sabrina Carpenter.<\/p>\n\u201cI can only sit and take so much. My name has been dragged across the internet in ways I usually don\u2019t respond too,\u201d he wrote at the time. \u201cI have to respond now because it\u2019s getting to a place where there are too many lines being crossed.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cI deactivated my account because I can no longer let this stuff distract from my family and my work,\u201d he continued. \u201cThe messages I have received, no person should ever have to read them. Absolute lies, hatred, disgusting commentary about my appearance, character, how I am as a parent and every other inhumane thing you can imagine.\u201d<\/p>\n
Keoghan currently appears in Netflix\u2019s newly released Peaky Blinders film, The Immortal Man<\/em>, as Erasmus \u201cDuke\u201d Shelby, Tommy Shelby\u2019s (Cillian Murphy) son.
