This week, a woman on TikTok shared a video inside her local Kroger store in Atlanta, Georgia, showing the bakery\u2019s offering for the federal holiday commemorating the abolition of slavery.<\/p>\n
\u201cThis is some bulls***,\u201d the shopper said in the clip. \u201cWho the hell made this ugly a** s***. I wish there was a manager around here because y\u2019all decorate everything else around here cute.\u201d<\/p>\n
The woman showed off a selection of cookie cakes with crude writing in icing of phrases such as \u201cFree @ Last\u201d and \u201cJune 19 Free.\u201d A third cookie cake that only had white frosting on the edges read merely: \u201cFree.\u201d <\/p>\n
\u201cFor Juneteenth you want to just throw something on a freaking cookie cake and expect someone to buy it?\u201d the TikToker added. \u201cThat\u2019s bulls***.\u201d <\/p>\n

\u201cKroger, count your days. Why even bother if you\u2019re going to lack creativity,\u201d she wrote in the caption. \u201c This is a mockery!\u201d <\/p>\n
In response to the video, a representative for Kroger told The Independent<\/em>: \u201cThe cakes and cookies that were featured in the video were inconsistent with our provided guidance and not of the quality we would expect to see from our stores. The products have been removed, and we\u2019ve addressed this directly with the store teams and the customer who took the initial video.\u201d<\/p>\nThe comments section of @blaq.monalisa\u2019s video, which has more than 10.4 million views, were flooded with people criticizing the grocery store chain.<\/p>\n
\u201c\u2018Free @ last\u2019 is diabolical,\u201d one wrote, while another added: \u201cThey were better off just not acknowledging Juneteenth.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cThis is funny but NOT funny,\u201d a third wrote. \u201cI\u2019m highly disappointed in Kroger.\u201d<\/p>\n
A fourth quipped: \u201cIf you didn\u2019t bring up Juneteenth, I would\u2019ve thought it was a welcome home from jail cake.\u201d<\/p>\n
Many people also compared the incident to Walmart\u2019s viral ice cream for Juneteenth in 2022, which was pulled from stores after some critics labelled it as \u201cthe epitome of white supremacy in action.\u201d At the time, Walmart was accused of using Juneteenth to make money without taking action to support Black employees and communities. <\/p>\n
The supermarket said in a statement toThe Independent: \u201c<\/em>Juneteenth holiday marks a commemoration and celebration of freedom and independence. However, we received feedback that a few items caused concern for some of our customers and we sincerely apologize. We are reviewing our assortment and will remove items as appropriate.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
