\u201cThis is not The Silver Bachelor<\/em>, this is The Golden Bachelor<\/em>,\u201d Owens continued. \u201cThey\u2019ve got to be fit, because I stay in shape and work out and stuff. And I told [producers] to try to stay away from the artificial hips and the wigs.\u201d<\/p>\nFans were quick to turn to X following the podcast, highlighting the \u201cshallowness\u201d of Owens\u2019s comments, with some even asking for a new lead to be cast.<\/p>\n

A third noted that the former NFL player\u2019s comments didn\u2019t exactly align with the intention of the show. \u201cThat kinda negates the \u2018golden\u2019 part,\u201d they wrote. \u201cSounds more like middle-aged bachelor.\u201d<\/p>\n
The Golden Bachelor<\/em>, a spinoff of ABC\u2019s hit Bachelor<\/em> series, first premiered in 2023 to great success. Season one averaged 10.4 million viewers after the first 35 days across platforms, making it the strongest average for any ABC unscripted series since The Bachelor<\/em>\u2019s 2019 and 2020 seasons, according to the network.<\/p>\nOwens was announced as the lead of The<\/em> Golden Bachelor<\/em> back in April, taking over from the show\u2019s inaugural lead, Gerry Turner.<\/p>\nAfter retiring from a professional football career, Owens met his first love, and together they welcomed two sons. After years of marriage, they got divorced in 2020, and he has since focused on raising his sons and coaching their extracurricular sports teams.<\/p>\n
