\n\tThis season, the LVMH Prize finalist\u2019s collection was centered around repetition and the skills acquired through doing the same thing over and over. \u201cThrough the process of repetition, you\u2019re able to create things that can be passed from generation to generation,\u201d he said. \u201cThat\u2019s the path we started exploring within the basis of our culture.\u201d<\/p>\n
\n\tAs a result of this exploration, Campillo began researching weaving and knitting as well as Mexican basketry and used those same techniques on the fabrics in his collection. \u201cIt allowed us to explore structure, volume and texture,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
\n\tIn the collection, his team hand-stitched architectural panels that he used as details on oversize pants and jackets and other pieces. This allowed the outfits to be transformed into something much more artisanal. This season also marked the first time he worked with textile artisans to incorporate traditional knitting felting into his line.<\/p>\n
\n\tThe basket-weaving technique was prevalent throughout the line, with intricate leather jackets and shorts created from that technique and offered up in shades of brown and rust. Panels of these woven leathers were also applied to other pieces, much like \u201ctissue paper on the windshield of a car,\u201d he said, a technique that once again turned heads.<\/p>\n
\n\tThe intricacies of the line were unmistakable considering the fact that some pieces took two craftspeople two weeks to create. But that\u2019s just what Campillo was trying to achieve. And the fact that he manages to push the limits every season also helps set his collection apart.<\/p>\n
