Winslet has spent much of her career pushing back against Hollywood\u2019s beauty standards; however, she now feels that \u201cnobody cares any more.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cNo one\u2019s listening because they\u2019ve become obsessed with chasing an idea of perfection to get more likes on Instagram. It upsets me so much,\u201d she told The Sunday Times<\/em> <\/em>in a new interview.<\/p>\n\u201cIt is devastating. If a person\u2019s self-esteem is so bound up in how they look, it\u2019s frightening,\u201d the Titanic <\/em>actor, 50, continued.<\/p>\n\u201cAnd it\u2019s puzzling because I have moments when I think it\u2019s better, when I look at actresses at events dressed how they want, whichever shape \u2014 but then so many people are on weight-loss drugs. It\u2019s so varied. Some are making choices to be themselves, others do everything they can to not be themselves. And do they know what they are putting in? The disregard for one\u2019s health is terrifying. It bothers me now more than ever. It is f***ing chaos out there.\u201d<\/p>\n

open image in gallery<\/span><\/button><\/p>\n<\/div>Kate Winslet (right) stars in her directorial debut, \u2018Goodbye June,\u2019 alongside Helen Mirren (Netflix)<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/div>\nAccording to The Times<\/em>, Winslet singled out actors including Helen Mirren, Toni Collette and Andrea Riseborough \u2014 all of whom she stars with in her forthcoming directorial debut, Goodbye June <\/em>\u2014 as well as her Avatar<\/em> co-star, Sigourney Weaver, for aging naturally in the spotlight.<\/p>\n\u201cWe have to keep being real,\u201d Winslet added.<\/p>\n
After starring in Ellen Kura\u2019s 2024 biopic about war photojournalist Lee Miller (Lee<\/em>), Winslet expressed her frustration about people commenting on her appearance.<\/p>\n\u201cPeople say, \u2018Oh, you were so brave for this role. You didn\u2019t wear any makeup.\u2019 You know, \u2018You had wrinkles,\u2019\u201d she explained.<\/p>\n
\u201cDo we say to the men, \u2018Oh, you were so brave for this role. You grew a beard?\u2019 No. We don\u2019t.\u201d<\/p>\n
Winslet, who went topless in Lee,<\/em> previously criticized viewers who labelled her as \u201cbrave\u201d for filming nude scenes without losing weight. \u201cBrave is going to the front line. Brave is being a NHS nurse during Covid,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n\u201cIt\u2019s not flipping brave to go topless or have no makeup or no Botox\u2026 That\u2019s just being a real person.\u201d<\/p>\n
Non-surgical procedures, such as fillers, are rising in popularity with nearly 10,000 performed by British Association of Aesthetic Plastic Surgeons (BAAPS) members in 2024.<\/p>\n
Winslet is currently promoting Goodbye June<\/em>, which follows four siblings (Winslet, Collette, Riseborough, and Johnny Flynn) when their mother\u2019s (Mirren) health takes an unexpected turn just before Christmas, forcing them to confront messy family dynamics in the face of possible loss.<\/p>\n\u201cIt is hard to talk about loss and grief, whether it’s happened to you or not. It is something that ultimately does happen to us all.
