Mugler Re/edit Pop-up Launches at Selfridges

LONDON — Selfridges and Mugler are taking a trip back to the ‘80s and ‘90s with a pop-up displaying the brand’s new capsule collection, Re/edit.

The display will take place until Oct. 12 and the collection will be available to shop at the department store which brings together 24 reimagined designs from 1985 to 2000.

The capsule collection spotlights the signatures that defined Mugler’s aesthetic across two decades: precision tailoring, lingerie-inspired detailing and sculptural eveningwear that blurred the lines between couture and ready-to-wear.

Shoppers can also visit a special installation of Manfred Thierry Mugler’s original archive pieces, which directly inspired the new collection.

Sharon Stone fronts the collection, starring in a cinematic series of portraits in which she inhabits multiple personas, meant to suggest a voyeuristic eye and a study of quiet tension, according to the house. The images echo the theatricality of Mugler’s original runway shows.

The lineup features highlights such as a sharply cut pin-striped blazer paired with a slit skirt, a bold red tailored suit with a scarf collar, and a military-style trenchcoat layered over a shirtdress.

The capsule collection arrives as the house gears up for its first collection under a new creative director, Miguel Castro Freitas, whose appointment became effective in April. The Portuguese national who is little known in the industry took over from Casey Cadwallader who led the brand for approximately seven years.
